It was an incredibly poor 2025 National Football League season for the New York Jets, as Gang Green finished with a 3-14 record in the AFC East. The main objective for the front office this year is a significant improvement in both the roster and overall performance, with the goal of making the playoffs and ending that long drought. The roster has so many needs, but running back with Breece Hall is a strength.
There were quite a few questions surrounding the franchise in the early months of 2026, and one of the biggest at MetLife Stadium was what to do about the running back situation. That question was partially answered by retaining Breece Hall, as he was tagged for the upcoming season. However, there has since been plenty of media speculation about whether a longer-term extension should follow, and if so, whether it should be for three or four additional seasons. Such a deal would carry the 24-year-old Omaha native and 2022 draft pick through the prime years of his career.
That leads to a bigger question in the eyes of many: Is it worth it, or could the Jets allocate that level of investment more effectively elsewhere? For fans who follow betting trends and analysis through sites like Hudsonreporter, it is a debate that is drawing increasing attention.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay is one notable dissenting voice, and many will understand his cautious approach. Hall appeared to be developing into a cornerstone player early in his career, but it is fair to say he has not looked quite the same since suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury during his breakout rookie season.
His health is no longer in question, but his production has declined, as the numbers show a steady drop-off since his return. The key question raised is whether the Jets should expect improvement now that he is further removed from the injury and its mental challenges, or consider moving on before his value declines further.
The counterargument is that while running back is often viewed as a replaceable position, it seems unlikely the Jets could find a better option in the immediate future. That reality suggests Hall, even at his current level of play, may still be the best available option, making stability the more appealing path.
