History between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots

New York Jets vs New England Patriots History: From the Titans to Today

New York and New England are very different, especially when it comes to sports. When you think of New York, you think of many things, including its iconic teams. The New York Yankees, New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Giants, and New York Jets all come to mind.

For New England, you think of a similar group. These include the Boston Red Sox

, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins.

New York and New England are also very different geographically. They have different histories as well. Speaking of history, there is a long one between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots.

Their history began in September 1960. This marked their first matchup. At the time, the Jets were called the New York Titans. The Patriots were known as the Boston Patriots.

The game took place at the Polo Grounds. Boston won that game.

Over the years, the New England Patriots have controlled most of the series. This was especially true during the era of Tom Brady. Facing the Jets twice a season became routine for him.

During that time, Brady had a 30–7 regular season record against New York. The Patriots also lead the playoff record 2–1. However, the Jets’ lone playoff win came in the 2011 Divisional Round. Between 2016 and 2026, New England went 18–2 against the Jets.

The Jets have struggled against New England. Still, there have been some memorable moments. One example is their win in the 2023 season. That game became Bill Belichick’s final game as head coach of the Patriots.

That win will always stand out for Jets fans. The team has beaten New England before. However, most matchups have been difficult.

In New York, the team that found the most success against New England is the New York Giants. They won two Super Bowls against them. These were Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.

The Giants have also had success in other matchups. Because of this, the Jets could learn from their approach. If they do, both New York teams could build a stronger history against New England.

Let’s go Jets.
