Because we’ve swung and missed so many times in years past in saying Breece Hall was primed for a breakout season, we’ll pump the breaks on that one this time around and simply say…there are some things we’ve noticed about Frank Reich that could benefit Hall.
Breece Hall’s Top Plays of 2025
Having spent several seasons at multiple different stops as an offensive coordinator or head coach, taking a look at how Reich has attacked defenses does bode well for Breece Hall in 2026. Far more often than not, when Reich has a high level pass catcher out of the backfield, he calls for them to get a ton of targets, which is something the Jets have failed to do with Hall far too often.
When your offense is as bad as the Jets in recent years, you would imagine Hall, who has shown he can make plays as a pass catcher, would see a handful of targets every week. Even if it was just five per game, that would translate to 70+ targets a year. That’s a number that Hall has hit just once in four years when he had 76 in 2023. And even that was somewhat misleading as a whopping SIXTEEN of those targets in one game against the Commanders. Nine other times that year the Jets would target Hall fewer than five times.
Would something like that transpire under Reich, it would be a shocking development. In his time as an offensive coordinator/head coach, he has used his pass catching backs with great regularity. Even when he’s had a solid stable of backs, multiple guys will see a lot of action through the air.
The best example might be when Reich had former Jet Danny Woodhead in his backfield and called his number so often that he topped the 100 target mark at 108. Imagine what Hall could do with that many opportunities.
In addition to Hall, Reich got Nyheim Hines 70 or more targets twice and had Hines and a young Jonathan Taylor combine for over 100 targets in 2021. In his final season as an offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers, Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders had a combined 85 targets.
So while it’s entirely possible that the entire Jets backfield will see a bump in targets this season under Reich, Breece Hall should be the guy whose number is called the most as he hopes to finally reach his full potential as a dynamic every down back.
