Jets training camp press conferences are usually dominated by questions about roster, injuries, and position competitions. On Wednesday, however, Jets general manager Darren Mougey spent several minutes discussing another topic that is becoming increasingly important around the NFL. Artificial intelligence.
Asked how the Jets are using analytics and AI, Mougey said the commitment extends throughout the organization.
AI Is an Organizational Commitment
“Absolutely, the analytics and the AI, right? That’s been an organizational buy-in from ownership to Hymie (Elhai) and the business side, obviously coach and I talking about it. We’ve invested in it.”
Mougey said the amount of information available to NFL teams continues to grow, making it more important than ever to organize and present it effectively.
“There is so much data now. There is so much data, whether it’s college, whether it’s pro, but how we’re deciphering the data, how we’re breaking it down, how we’re digesting it, how it’s getting presented to me is huge.”
Analytics Staff Plays a Major Role
Darren Mougey credited analytics director Iwao Fusillo along with Sean Clement and the rest of the analytics staff for helping turn that information into something useful for coaches and scouts.
“I feel like we have some of the best with Iwao and Sean Clement and our analytics staff that’s breaking down all the data, feeding it to me, feeding it to the coaching staff; here’s what’s important, here’s what we’re doing, but also challenging us on some things and us challenging them. It’s a different lens, but it’s been very helpful.”
Automation Has Already Saved Time
When asked where AI has made the biggest impact so far, Mougey pointed to automation instead of player evaluation.
“I think, to this point, what it’s helped with the most is the automation of things. We’re saving a lot of man hours being able to automate information and systems and spit it out quickly. So, it’s been huge, and I look forward to the continued growth of the organization and with the analytics.”

Later in the press conference, Mougey was asked if he personally uses AI.
“Yeah, absolutely. We’ve integrated it into our systems, again, for a lot of data breakdowns. We can just do things a lot quicker, and it’s allowed for more efficiency with the automation. I toy around with the Chat GPT’s and the different things. We have in-house ones that we can do for different questions, but really it’s all the in-house information and the data points that’s been cool.”
It was an interesting glimpse into how the Jets front office is evolving. While fans focus on what happens on the practice field, Mougey’s comments showed the organization is also investing in technology behind the scenes as it looks for every possible advantage heading into the 2026 season.
Obviously they aren’t using AI to make player selections, but when you look back at the Jets draft picks over the past 20 or so years, AI couldn’t have done much worse.
