It’s only day two of training camp and the pads have yet to come on, but Jets fans will certainly like what they’re hearing about rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik. The fourth-round pick out of Clemson was cited multiple times by those on hand as throwing some impressive passes throughout the day.
Asked about it after practice, head coach Aaron Glenn said the rookie “made some throws, didn’t he”? in reference to his performance. The praise didn’t stop there, either. Glenn went on to tout Klubnic’s leadership that was on display during hist time at Clemson when he pushed through an adversity-filled season for the Tigers.
Discussing his time in college, Glenn said “we know the hills that he’s had in his career. We’re intrigued because he was able to bounce back and continue to go. To me, that shows leadership, too. When things went down, he continued to go.”
Almost universally viewed as a first-round pick heading in to last college football season, Klubnik took a step back in terms of production and questions arose. Klubnik saw his touchdown pass total drop from 36 to 16, leading him to fall to round four where the Jets snagged him with the 110th overall pick. So now the process of evaluating Klubnik at the pro level begins.
On Monday, Glenn says the pads will come on and the Jets will get a look at Klubnik going full speed against proven veterans. Fans will surely be watching closely to see if Cade Klubnik continues to impress.
