JetNation NFL Power Rankings – Week 2

NFL Power Rankings

The NFL Power Rankings are back after Week 1, and for Jets fans, it’s nice to finally see Gang Green moving in the right direction.

  1. Seattle Seahawks 1-0 (Week One: 2)

The Seahawks survived their starting quarterback going down to win against their top division and conference rival. If Seattle can weather the next several weeks without Darnold under center, they will be hard to unseat as NFC West champs.

  1. San Francisco 49ers 1-0 (Week One: 7)

The Niners explode up the rankings with the most impressive win of Week One. This may be a three-dog race in the NFC West after all.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-0 (Week One: 6)

The Jaguars had an additional preseason game in Week One. We get to see if the extra tune-up helped this week against an embarrassed Denver team.

  1. Los Angeles Rams 0-1 (Week One: 2)

We did not get to see the much-anticipated full Rams defense on the field together in Week One. Now we will need to wait several more weeks as Myles Garrett is injured. The real question is what happened to the completely healthy LA offense?

  1. Buffalo Bills 1-0 (Week One: 10)

The Bills win in Houston is a great start. Things do not get easier for Buffalo with the Lions, Chargers, Patriots, and Rams coming up.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs 1-0 (Week One: Unranked)

The Chiefs emphatically return to the top ten with a dominant division win. Kansas City should start 4-0 before their next division matchup against the Chargers.

  1. New England Patriots 0-1 (Week One: 4)

New England was still punchless against the Seahawks despite the offensive upgrades in the offseason.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles 1-0 (Week One: 8)

The Eagles handled their business at home against Washington, but they did little to quiet the doubts about their offense.

  1. Houston Texans 0-1 (Week One: 5)

The Texans could not get the Buffalo offense off the field Sunday. Houston’s defense did not give up 36 points in any game during the 2025 season.

  1. Chicago Bears 1-0 (Week One: 9)

The Bears showed elite firepower in Indy on Sunday. Bears games will be fun to watch. We will see if they have enough defense to be a factor in the NFC

  1. New York Jets 1-0 (Week One: 23)

That was a lot of fun to watch. The Jets flashed a balanced and capable offensive attack and a very stingy defense in Week One. The New York Jets – yes, the New York Jets, dominated time of possession Sunday with nearly 29 minutes of possession to just 21 for Tennessee. The Jets ran for 152 yards while stifling the Titans on the ground, holding Tennessee to just 68 rushing yards. The Titans were equally ineffective through the air as the Jets nearly doubled their output.

Geno Smith showed that his season with the Raiders was not what the Jets will get in 2026. Though it is just one week, we can clearly see the upgrade at the starting quarterback position. The Jets have a passer that can hit open receivers anywhere on the field. New York has not been able to say that for quite some time. Geno Smith was 19-24 for 215 yards against the Titans. While it is just one game, Geno Smith is in the top half of the league in passer rating. That is a spot we have not seen a Jet quarterback occupy in recent memory.

It is not all good news. The Jets suffered multiple injuries in Tennessee. Starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick injured his groin and is doubtful to play in this week’s game. Rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper caught his first NFL pass but injured his ankle in the game and is week-to-week. Rookie cornerback, D’Angelo Ponds has a calf injury and is questionable. Also questionable is linebacker Jamien Sherwood who has an injured knee.

The additionally sobering news is that the Tennessee Titans are a terrible football team. The Jets are better at nearly every position on the field. But the Jets can only beat the teams that they play, and how often have the Jets so clearly superior to their opponent? The injuries and the state of the Titans roster is a minor fly in the ointment applied to the sting of the Jets 2025 season.
