I don't see what's so wrong with this. We now have 5 WRs, which we should have had all along... considering Brad Smith isn't even a WR. So if you think about it we now have Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery, Coles, Turner. Not bad depth at all.... No matter what you think about him, fact is he did put up 700+ yards last season, so putting him in 4th is great.

Several outlets are reporting that the Jets are going to resign WR Laveranues Coles on Sunday.  Lisa Zimmerman had this update on twitter:

Lisa Zimmerman

Just learned former
#Jets
wide receiver Laveranues Coles will re-sign with the Jets on Sunday morning. May be a brief stay tho..

Manish Mehta from the NY Daily News posted this update on Twitter as well:

Manish MehtaConfirmed that
#Jets
will sign WR Laveranues Coles on Sunday. I’m hearing he may be with
#NYJ
for a week or two.
#nfl
#patriots

The timing of this move seems a bit strange.  Patrick Turner has filled in for Jerricho Cotchery nicely and with Jim Leonhard going on the injured reserve list the thought was that they would grab another defensive back.  Coles knows this system though and should be able to step right in.

Jets might have liked the way Coles played possession receiver with the Bengals last year.

Now with Cotchery gone, why not give him a shot there?

Possession of what? The bench? By seasons end he did not even play much and was one of the worst signings of the season. Cotch should be playing this week too. He claims he is 100%

Uhmmm... he caught a touchdown against us in the playoffs, in case you didn't notice. He also had a fumble, but the point is, he was NOT on the bench at the end of the season.

He did have 6 catches and a TD against us in the playoffs. He also didn't drop off during the season. He started off slowly, had a few decent games and ten tailed off a bit. According to the game logs he was good for about 3 catches for 32 ypg. Not bad for a #5WR, but nothing to write home about. He didn't have 700+ yards last year. He had 514. I wonder if Donovan Warren is healthy. He's on the practice squad and you think he'd be next in line.

wait a second

could this mean...

might it mean....

shotty has seen how offenses spread the jets defense out with 4 WR sets and pick on the #3 and #4 corners, and has decided to spread the pats* out ?

we can hope, right ?

cuz brad smith doesn't scare anyone in the slot, and keller and t-rich don't belong out there either :D

holmes, edwards, cotch and coles

ah who am I kidding

they said it's for two weeks, it's probably so he can make some sort of union years thing or whatever

according to this, he's not even going to dress

wtf ?

In terms of motivational impact, this isn't exactly Willis Reed making an inspirational entrance, but Jets officials apparently sensed the team was down after Friday afternoon's devastating injury to Jim Leonhard. The popular safety fractured his right tibia in a freak collision, underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

With an open spot on the 53-man roster, the Jets turned to Coles, who, in his heyday, was respected by teammates and team officials for his toughness and leadership. This might be a bit of a reach, considering Coles isn't expected to dress for the game and hasn't played since being released by the Jets in late August.

But at least he knows what it's like to win in New England. Coles was a member of the Jets for their last two wins in Foxborough, in 2006 and 2008. Coles, who turns 33 on Dec. 29, played with the Jets from 2000 to 2002 and 2005 to 2008. He tried for a third stint in training camp, claiming he'd retire if it didn't work out -- and it didn't. He was surprisingly released by the team.

In a conversation that appeared on HBO's "Hard Knocks," coach Rex Ryan told Coles that they wanted to re-sign him after the first regular-season game, a procedural move. But that didn't materialize; the Jets ended up re-signing another receiver, David Clowney.

That became a significant decision because to make room for Clowney, they cut running back Danny Woodhead. And you know what happened next: Woodhead was signed by the Patriots, coming out of nowhere to become a contributor.

That they're bringing Coles back for a third time fueled speculation that Ryan is making good on his promise, but people close to the team said it's mostly about a morale boost.

Coles, who also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins, has 674 catches in his career for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns.

Coles provides a morale boost to the many Jets that have played with him already, such as Shaun Ellis, Jerricho Cotchery, 3rd string QB Kellen Clemens and.... out of a 53 man roster, that's about it. I don't get it.....

So why the **** are we wasting a roster spot on him? Why not use it to sign a safety?

if this is an accurate report, it makes no sense, it's a dumb move.

They are hoping the metal plate in Coles' head scrambles the cheats bugging system.
