New York Jets News & Notes 7/26

By Tyson Rauch – Examiner.com

1) Douglas signs with the Dolphins- Former Jets defensive end Marques Douglas has signed with the Miami Dolphins.  Douglas, who had a very solid 2009 campaign with Gang Green, was rumored to be on the Jets radar as a training camp signing.  This move surprises me a little as Douglas was a very consistent player, especially against the run.

2) Mangold will not hold out of training camp- In an interview on the NFL Network, New York Jets All-Pro center Nick Mangold stated that he will not be holding out of training camp.  Mangold, who is in the last year of his rookie deal, stated the following:

“It’s just disappointing now where we’re at, but it’s one of those things you go through. I’m a professional. I’ve done everything the right way and I’m going to continue to do that (and) be there for my teammates and coaches. We’ll see how it all plays out.”

This is excellent news for the Jets and now puts the spotlight on Darrelle Revis and his contract situation.  The prediction here is that Revis will be in attendance as well, but will definitely share his unhappiness with the HBO cameras.

3) Are the Jets signing Brunell? The Jets were reportedly anxious to sign veteran quarterback Mark Brunell as a mentor for Mark Sanchez.  The “final four” restrictions have been lifted, but no signing.  Could it be that Gang Green is having a hard time deciding which young quarterback to release?  The thinking is that the Jets could try and trade Kellen Clemens, but not sure what type of market there is for the former Oregon gunslinger.

4) Wilson remains unsigned- The New York Jets have one draft pick left unsigned and that is their first rounder Kyle Wilson.  Wilson, who is slated to start at the nickel back position, will more than likely wait to for the players in front of him to sign before finalizing his deal.

Training camp begins on August 2nd, for the full schedule see NY Jets 2010 training camp schedule.
