Training Camp Is Here, Revis Is Not

Well Jets fans, the 5:30pm check-in time has passed which means that training camp is here.  The first practice is on Monday and here is the entire training camp schedule

if you are thinking of heading out to camp.

There is no shortage of news as the Jets prepare for their first practice.  The bad news is that Darrelle Revis is holding out.  Rich Cimini has more info on ESPN NY.

Revis, unhappy with his contract, skipped the mandatory team meeting at 5:30 p.m. ET. Players reported Sunday to training camp in Cortland. Revis did not participate in the morning conditioning run at the team’s facility in Florham Park, N.J. — a strong indication that he would be a no-show.

Sources told ESPNNewYork.com that Revis is committed to his position and is willing to sit out indefinitely.

Revis will be fined $16,000 a day. By not showing, he waived a guarantee for $20 million — in salaries in 2011 and 2012.

Darrelle Revis has earned a new contract, he has outperformed his rookie deal.  That being said, he is putting I before we and that has disaster written all over it.  These matters are best handled quietly.  Camp Revis certainly feels that this is a necessary step in order to get a new deal done.  With the uncertainty surrounding the labor situation this has the potential to drag on and become a major distraction to the team.
