Background and college
Born April 10, 1979 in Fontana, California, Coleman attended the University of California, Los Angeles. During his college career he made 138 tackles and 16.5 sacks. He majored in philosophy.
NFL Career
Before the Jets
Coleman was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He made his debut in the NFL against the Buffalo Bills in week 5. On August 31, 2003, the Dallas Cowboys acquired him via a trade with the Oakland Raiders. He spent four season there making 68 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
As a Jet
On March 6, 2007 he was signed by the New York Jets as an unrestricted free agent. He led the league in tackles as a defensive end with 83 in 2007
After the Jets
On April 25, 2009, Coleman was traded from the Jets to the Cleveland Browns as part of the draft day deal that sent the 5th overall selection to the Jets, who used it to draft Mark Sanchez.
