It’s A Christmas Miracle, Jets Top Bills

If the Jets have taught us one thing, it is that anything is possible.  We have been conditioned to believe that statement always has to be negative.  Today, at the Meadowlands, the year that has often defied explanation did so once again.

With 5:30 left in the 4th quarter the Bills went ahead by a score of 27 – 24.  After a very soft defensive series that saw the Bills drive down the field, the Jets season was on life support.  The offense couldn’t get it done and the Jets had to punt.  Pinning their hopes on a three and out, the defense couldn’t stop the run.  Buffalo ran 32 times for 187 yards (5.7 yard average) on the day.  Then the moment nobody saw coming happened.  After a gain of five yards on first down, the Bills decided to throw the ball on 2nd down.  Abram Elam chased down J.P Losman from behind for a sack and fumble.  Sean Ellis picked up the loose ball and as Chris Berman would say, was rumbling, stumling into the end zone.

The Jets win.  It really is that simple when everything goes your way.  If the Jets win the next two games (at Seattle, home for Miami) they win the division and go to the playoffs.  One thing we can say for sure, they need to play better football.

Some thoughts on todays game:

  • The Jets had 10 men on the field early in the game for a special teams play.  That should never happen.
  • Eric Smith seemed to play the obvious passing downs and Abram Elam saw lots of time as well.
  • David Clowney finally saw some action.  He had one ball thrown his way and made an outstanding catch for a 26 yard reception.  He played special teams as well.  He needs to have some more balls thrown his way.
  • The Jets lead the AFC in points scored.
  • Leon Washington (1 – 47 yards and a td ) and Thomas Jones (20 – 78 yards, 1 TD ) continue their impressive season.
