NY Jets Sign Laveranues Coles

The New York Jets and Laveranues Coles are going to find out if the third time is a charm.  They are reuniting once again, this makes Coles third stint with the Jets.  He was originally drafted in the 3rd round of the 2000 draft.  After the 2002 season in which he had, , he left for the Washington Redskins who offered more money.  Coles returned to the Jets in 2005 and stayed with the Jets until February of 2009 when he was waived by the Jets.
How long will this reunion last?  Coles said it could be short, it is possible that he is a four week replacement for Santonio Holmes who is suspended until week five.

“It’s an insurance policy for them,” Coles said. “Those first four games are very important for the team to get where they want to go. It’s an opportunity for me to come in and see what I can still do, but there’s a slim chance I’ll be there after four games. There’s a good chance I’ll get released; it depends on how things go. They were honest and open about it. It is what it is.”

As a veteran player Coles will receive a one year guaranteed contract if he is on the opening day roster.  Contract terms were not released but it the deal is believed to be for the veteran minimum of $855,000.

I started JetNation in 2005 and have been a New York Jets season ticket holder since graduating from high school. My dream is to see the New York Jets win the Super Bowl. Until then, I will be right here on JetNation writing, dreaming and talking NY Jets football.
