2011 NFL Draft: Predictions for the NY Jets 1st Round Pick

With the 2011 NFL Draft less than three weeks away it is time to start looking at some of the prospects that could be on the Jets radar in the first round.  Listed below are some of the expert’s predictions for Gang Green’s first round pick.

Steve Wyche- NFL.com : Justin Houston OLB Georgia  (pass rusher)

Charles Davis- NFL Network: Phil Taylor DL Baylor  (a big DT that can stuff the middle)

Brian Baldinger- NFL Network: Akeem Ayers LB UCLA (pass rusher that can drop into coverage)

Pat Kirwan- NFL.com: Akeem Ayers LB UCLA

Rob Rang- NFLDraftScout.com: Akeem Ayers LB UCLA

Chad Reuter- NFLDraftScout.com:  Jabaal Sheard DE Pittsburgh (speedy pass rusher)

Matt Bitonti- DraftDaddy.com: Jabaal Sheard DE Pittsburgh

Don Banks – SI.com: Phil Taylor DT Baylor

While all of these predictions are subject to change as the draft approaches, it is evident that most of the analysts feel that upgrading the pass rush will be the Jets number one priority.  I tend to agree with this assessment as Gang Green is in desperate need of an explosive player that can get to the quarterback.

Note: The Jets have 6 picks in the 2011 draft.

1st round: 30th overall,

2nd round: none (Cromartie trade)

3rd round: 30th 94 overall

4th round: 29th 126 overall

5th round: 30th 161 overall

6th round: 29th 184 overall

7th round: 5th 208 overall
