It seems as if the Jets search for a new general manager has taken a turn. It was widely reported that San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble was going to replace Mike Tannenbaum as the team’s GM. It was assumed Gamble would become GM after reports surfaced that he canceled a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their GM job. Gamble to the Jets does not look as defiant
as previously thought because he is still interviewing with other organizations.The Jets did interview New York Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross on Monday for the GM position but it was wide thought this was done just to satisfy the NFL’s “Rooney Rule” which requires teams to interview a minority candidate for certain positions within the organization and Gamble would be named GM soon after.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the Jets have scheduled a second interview with Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel David Caldwell today for their GM position:
With owner Woody Johnson and head coach Rex Ryan scheduled to meet the media at 11 this morning it leads one to believe they do not have Gamble nor any other GM candidate on board as of yet.
