The Jets’ slot receiver suffered a violent hit from Buccaneers safety Mark Barron — and two other defenders closing in — late in the second quarter of Sunday’s 18-17 win over Tampa Bay. The blow knocked Kerley’s helmet loose and he lay face down, clutching his head, for several minutes.
Though the receiver returned to the game, he did not practice Monday and was listed with a “head injury.” A team spokesman later clarified that Kerley passed in-game and postgame concussion protocol tests Sunday but exhibited symptoms Monday morning. As a result, the trainers decided to “err on the side of caution” and list Kerley with a concussion.
It seems unlikely that Kerley will play against the Patriots, especially since it is a short week with the game being on Thursday night. Here is the full injury report that the Jets released today.
