ESPN NFL insider Adam Caplan is reporting that the New York Jets are expected to sign free agent inside linebacker Joe Mays sometime next week.

Mays, a former sixth-round selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 draft spent 2014 as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs where he played in 8 games, recording 20 tackles and a fumble recovery.

General Manager Mike Maccagnan is familiar with Mays who spent 2013 in with the Houston Texans while Maccagnan was a member of their personnel department.

With the recent addition of linebackers Erin Henderson and Jamari Lattimore, the Jets have assembled an impressive level of depth at the inside linebacker position behind David Harris and Demario Davis.
