Is the Drew Allar Hype Legitimate? All-22 Film Review

As we continue breaking down the 2026 NFL Draft class and it’s potential prospects, we travel to Happy Valley to discuss Penn State’s quarterback Drew Allar. After his 2024 campaign, there were rumors that Allar may enter the 2025 NFL Draft, but ultimately decided to go back to school for his senior season. Will this decision prove to be the correct one?
Allar entered college as the #1 QB recruit and 3rd overall recruit in his class. In 2022, he was the backup to Sean Clifford, before taking over as full time starter in 2023. Last season, Allar completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns with 8 interceptions. He also added 302 yards and 6 scores as a rusher, adding to his upside as a dual-threat quarterback.
After diving into the film, it’s clear that Drew Allar possesses a lot of physical qualities that will help him succeed at the NFL level. His athleticism and improvisation when the play breaks down is something not many passers can do, and it’s clear there is a “Josh Allen influence” when he takes off as a runner. When inside the pocket, however, Allar’s footwork and drop back mechanics become inconsistent when facing pressure. Several throws come from an unbalanced base and often he throws off his back foot while drifting away, leading to inaccuracy downfield. If he is able to stay poised in the pocket and deliver the football, it’s not hard to see Allar rise up draft boards throughout the upcoming season.
