With Justin Fields being benched and Tyrod Taylor set to take over as the Jets starting quarterback, it’s worth looking at which offensive players could benefit most from the switch.
WR AD Mitchell: The new arrival had a disastrous debut with three drops from Justin Fields, but with Taylor stepping in, it’s fair to expect better deep ball accuracy and a quarterback who isn’t afraid to throw the ball down the field consistently. Mitchell as WR1 traits and the Jets should look to let him show just how good he can be. The right thing to do moving forward is to have Taylor saturate Mitchell with targets to find out if they’ve already got a quality receiver to start opposite Garrett Wilson next season.
TE Mason Taylor: Remember this guy? Taylor showed some promise when he put up a combined 132 yards back in weeks six and seven. Since that point, he hasn’t managed to surpass fifty yards in any one game and has managed more than four catches just once. Expectations were high after just a few weeks ago and will be again if Taylor incorporates him into the offense.
RB Breece Hall: When your quarterback is hesitant to throw the ball down the field more than once a week, teams have an easy time loading the box with extra defenders. If Taylor has any success at all by opening things up, defenses will have to back off a bit if he has any success. This, of course, could open things up for Hall who has faced more loaded boxes than any other back in the NFL this season.
