The Jets and wide receiver Allen Lazard have mutually agreed to part ways. In the midst of his worst season as a pro, Lazard reportedly asked the Jets to grant his release and the club obliged. Lazard topped 500 yards in three of his last four seasons, but has managed just 70 yards through the air in 2025.
Brought in with the knowledge that they’d be pursuing Lazard’s long-time friend and teammate Aaron Rodgers back in 2023, the receiver never played to his full potential in Green and White.
Had you gone to online casinos and bet that the receiver would even come close to his career high of 788 receiving yards that he posed with the Packers back in 2022, you would have been sorely disappointed. In three seasons with the Jets, Lazard posted receiving totals of 311, 530 and this season just 70 yards. His tenure in New York was also marred by drops which drew the ire of fans early and often. With so few targets there have been no drops this season, but in each of his first two years with the Jets, his drop rate was over seventeen percent, the worst such mark in the NFL.
The release will now allow Lazard to sign on with a contender looking to add veteran depth. In fact, a move to Pittsburgh, where he can reunite with Rodgers would make perfect sense. He could also land with a division rival such as the Bills or Patriots.
In a perfect world, the move would open up a roster spot for one of the young receivers on the Jets practice squad such as Quentin Skinner or Jamaal Pritchett.
