It’s pretty rare for an NFL team to bring a player back who they had previously shipped out, but all-world linebacker DeMario Davis is back for a third run with the team that originally drafted him.
Davis comes back to 1 Jets Drive on a 2-year deal worth $22 million dollars to upgrade a defensive unit in dire need of help against the run. A rare case of a linebacker who appears to get better with age, Davis has had 120 tackles or more in each of the past three seasons. For his career, he has racked up 1,500 tackles in 14 seasons.
With Quincy Williams expected to depart and the Jets expected to go to a base 3-4 defense, the Jets needed to add some bodies inside and on a short-term deal, the Jets plug a hole that they can fill again with a draft pick this or next season.
Drafted to play under Rex Ryan back in 2012, Davis has now spent time with Gang Green, the Browns, and Saints.
