The Jets have gone on quite the spending spree on the defensive side of the football since the start of free agency, but today they addressed the offensive line, adding guard Dylan Parham and retaining tackle Max Mitchell.
A veteran of four pro seasons, Parham has appeared in 64 pro games, starting 63. Parham’s addition means the Jets have five starters under contract for a group that will consist of Olu Fashanu, Parham, Josh Myers, Joe Tippmann and Armand Membou. Of course that could change should the Jets opt to draft another interior lineman to compete with those already in place.
For Mitchell, it’s a nice reward for a player who has had his ups and downs as a pro, but who did some good work as an extra blocker in the run game last season, although the sample size was very limited. He played just 72 snaps on the year, with 52 of them coming as a run blocker according to the folks at Pro Football Focus.
It will be interesting to see where the Jets go from here as they’ve now filled many of their most glaring needs on both sides of the ball but could still use help at wide receiver and linebacker. With four picks in the top 44 of the upcoming draft, expect both of those spots to be addressed at some point, but of course Darren Mougey and company could keep adding pieces as free agency moves on.
