Call him Dealin’ Darren; Mougey Trades Fields for ’27 Pick

Justin Fields

Another day, another deal; Jets GM Darren Mougey has pulled off another trade that nobody saw coming.  Expected to release QB Justin Fields at some point this offseason, Mougey was able to get a 2027 6th round draft choice for the failed signal caller.

Fields joined the Jets last offseason on a 2-year deal worth up to $40 million with $30 million of that guaranteed but after bombing in year one, he was bound to be moved on at some point this offseason.  The expectation was that Mougey would just cut ties outright, but in the end he was able to convince the Chiefs to give up a pick.

Of course a sixth-round pick doesn’t carry tremendous value, but getting anything at all for one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks last season should earn Mougey plenty of love.

This is now Mougey’s fourth trade since the start of the offseason.

His first sent defensive end Jermaine Johnson to the Titans for massive nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat.  He then followed that up with a pair of day 3 pick swaps to acquire safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and QB Geno Smith from the Dolphins and Raiders respectively.  Now this deal to add a pick and unload Fields is number four.
