The Jets announced that they have placed linebacker Jonathan Vilma on the injured reserve list. The Jets did not specify what the injury was but it is known that he injured his knee against the Bengals last week. He was held out of practice this week. By placing him on Injured Reserve he will be out until next season.
Taking Vilma’s roster spot is LB Matt Chatham. Matt was removed from the reserve\physically unable to perform list.
Jonathan made this statement, “I am disappointed that my season ended prematurely. I was looking forward to playing the rest of the season and helping the team get back on track. I now look forward to supporting my teammates for the rest of the 2007 season and returning to the field with them in 2008.”
Mitch Frankel, Vilma’s agent added that the injury is not career threatening and that Vilma was looking forward to returning to the Jets in 2008.
