MNF Betting – Baltimore vs. New York Jets on Monday Night

The New York Jets finally get to display all of the hype on Monday night and NFL Betting will be at a fever pitch. The revamped Baltimore Ravens are the opposition in the first Regular Season game in the new Meadowlands Stadium.

BALTIMORE RAVENS (0-0) vs. NEW YORK JETS (0-0)

Monday, September 13, 7:00 PM ET

Meadowlands Stadium

Landover, Maryland

Broadcast: ESPN

MNF Betting Lines:

Baltimore: +2 1/2 (-110)

NY Jets: – 2 1/2 (-110)

Moneyline: Baltimore +115: NYJ -135

Total: 36 points: Over (110) Under (110)

The Baltimore Ravens were a good team last year but instead of accepting their Top tier status, they went out and improved their team in the offseason. MNF betting will be rampant but the oddsmakers don’t seem to be totally buying into them yet. The Ravens now own one of the more balanced teams in the NFL making any NFL betting on this team prudent.

Offensively, Joe Flacco will be the key to success against the Jets. His arm likely won’t be the deciding factor but his ability to limit mistakes and to manage the game will. Sure he has new toys Anquan Boldin and TJ Houshmanzadeh to throw to, but it will likely be Ray Rice that will be featured.

Baltimore’s 18th ranked passing offense will certainly improve this year and it should open up some more holes for Ray Rice, like he needs any more help. The whole offense will be tested against a Jets defense that is the envy of every NFL team.

Baltimore’s defense will be strong once again but remember they are far from the elite squad of a few years ago when MNF betting. There are major concerns about the secondary and with Ed Reed on the PUP; the passing defense could be a weakness. However, the Ravens match up very well with a Jets offense that depends on the run. Add in a pissed off Ray Lewis and I lay my MNF Betting dollars on the defense being ready!

The New York Jets finally get to stop the talking and let their play shine! There will be plenty of dough spent on MNF Betting on this team so it’s about time we see what this team is made of! Offensively and defensively, this team is ready to contend. Failure is not an option! Week 1 offers a good challenge and will be a good gage of what kind of team the Jets actually are.

The Jets lost their leading rusher from last season and have opted to go with prospect Shonne Green out of the backfield. Greene showed in the playoffs last season that he can handle the load and can be a major contributor. LaDainian Tomlinson brings his experience to the backup role and by all accounts, he looks like a new man.

Mark Sanchez enters his second year as the starting pivot and expectations are that he will improve on a decent rookie season. He still has Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery and Dustin Keller to throw to. Santonio Holmes’ debut will be in Week 5.

The Jets game plan depends on strong play from their offensive line and they have one of the best. They will be crucial in a game against the swarming Ravens. They need to keep Sanchez upright and generate holes for the running game.

Defensively, the Jets should be the best unit in the NFL. Derrelle Revis will suit up on Monday but may show an element of rust. Antonio Cromartie was disappointing in the preseason and may be the weakest link on the defensive squad. They can expect the Ravens to attack them through the so the secondary better be ready!

MNF Betting Outlook:

New York is currently the MNF Betting favorite but I think that it is based on hype alone. Baltimore was the better team last season and one could argue that they did just as good a job retooling in the offseason as the Jets. All of the pressure is on the New York Jets in this game and I think that the youngsters on the team, namely Mark Sanchez and Shonne Greene aren’t quite ready for prime time.

MNF Betting Pick: Baltimore Ravens + 2 ½ in a minor upset.
