New York Jets news and notes
1) Jets cut Coles; Sign Cook? Several media outlets are reporting that the Jets have cut wide receiver Laveranues Coles and will be signing safety Emanuel Cook. The signing of Cook would make sense as Gang Green has become extremely thin at the safety position with the loss of Leonhard and the injury to James Ihedigbo. Not for nothing but I never understood the re-signing of Coles to begin with. With all of the injuries the Jets have why not try to bring in someone who can play special teams or return kicks? What is there a leadership void in the locker room?
2) Rex getting ripped- It was only a matter of time before the New York media dug their claws into Rex Ryan and his bravado. Following the Jets embarrassing loss to the Patriots on Monday Ryan did his best to put a positive spin on things. Rex went even as far as to compare his team to that of the 1985 Bears, one of the best teams of all-time. Well as expected the media is ripping Rex for his analogies, brashness, and overall philosophies. There is no doubt that Ryan is in a tough spot, his team talked the talk and got trounced. But the only way to bounce back is to stay true to yourself and come back with a vengeance. I think it is a little premature to start the Ryan attacks. Now if the Jets lose to the Dolphins that is another story.
3) Dolphins to practice at the Giants facility- There are several reports stating that the Miami Dolphins will fly into New Jersey early on Friday to hold their final practice of the week at 2 pm at the New York Giants facility. The Giants have stated that this is the first time any team has ever asked permission to do this, but granted the request nonetheless. I am not going to make a big deal of this but could you imagine if the Jets did something like this to the Giants? I am sure it would be a much bigger story.
4) Folk to stay for now- On Tuesday Rex Ryan stated that kicker Nick Folk will not be replaced this week. The Jets must feel that there are no suitable replacements because Folk is quickly becoming a special teams nightmare. Note to Nick: If you want to remain with the team please go to the New Meadowlands Stadium every day to get a solid understanding of the windy conditions. Anything less than that is inexcusable.
