Jets Rumored to be Interested in Free Agent Running Back Jamaal Williams

Joe Douglas

You can count running back Jamaal Williams as the first player rumored to be generating interest from Joe Douglas and the Jets with Breece Hall expected to miss time earl on.  This, from Tyler Dunne, who seems to be garnering responses from the Jets beat, lending some credibility to the story.

Williams spent 2022 with the Lions, who would like to get the running back to stay in their building.

Antwan Staley of the Daily News chimed in by saying the Jets should consider another back with Breece Hall coming back from an ACL tear.  A fair point from Staley, but should the Jets be looking to spend big at the position?

We asked just a few weeks ago if the Jets should be looking to make any moves in the running back room, but targeting one of the top free agents on the market could be a mista$19 million on cap space.  Should the acquire quarterback Aaron Rodgers, that number would dip to around $3 million.

Of course the team could always move money around to create additional cap space, but doing so to squeeze an extra runner on the roster would come as a surprise.  Unless, of course Rodgers himself expressed a desire to reunite with his former Green Bay teammate.

Williams is coming off of his best season as a pro, hitting career highs in yards and touchdowns with 1,066 and 17 respectively.

According to Dunne, the Bengals and Bills are also expected to show some interest in Williams.
