Jets Sign XFL Defensive Player of the Year Pita Taumoepenu

New York Jets

Having parted ways with injured linebacker Hamsah Nasirildeen earlier in the day, XFL defensive player of the year Pita Taumoepenu has been scooped up by Joe Douglas and the Jets.

The former 49ers draft pick finished the XVL season with 7.5 sacks and 8 tackles for loss as a member of the XFL’s Las Vegas Vipers.

From 2017 to 2021, the former Utah Product appeared in 11 games for the Broncos, Falcons and 49ers, picking up five tackles.  He was selected in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2017 draft while Jets head coach Robert Saleh was a member of the 49ers coaching staff.
