Draft Prospect Player Profiles

JetNation Prospect Profile: Oregon State WR Anthony Gould

While many fans will be hyper focused on what the New York Jets will be doing in the early rounds of the NFL draft, wide receiver Anthony Gould out of Oregon State is a day 3 option who offers plenty of intrigue as a potential game breaking pass catcher and return man.

Player Name: Anthony Gould

School: Oregon State

Height: 5′ 8”

Weight: 170

(Combine measurements pending)

Hometown: Leavenworth, Kansas

High School: West Salem (OR)

Class: Redshirt Junior

Recruit: 2 star (Rivals), 3 star (247 sports)

Film Study

Games Watched:

Stanford (2023), UCLA (2023), Washington (2023) and Shrine Bowl (2023)

Route Running: His elite speed and quickness enable Gould to get open even when his route running isn’t perfect.  Over time it’s an aspect of his game that can get better with enough work.

Hands: We didn’t see any drops in our review but per PFF Gould did have four drops on 70 targets last season.  Given his size, there will be some limitations in terms of catch radius.

Release: Explosive out of his stance, Gould gets off the line in a hurry and doesn’t take long to hit top speed.

Separation/Quickness: Elite level quickness allows Gould to separate.  While he’s not quite on par with the likes of Tank Dell, he should be able to win at the next level.

Speed: Expect Anthony Gould to post one of the better 40 times at the combine in Indy.  He’s a legitimate burner.

Size: This will be the biggest knock on the 5′ 8” receiver heading to the combine and throughout the draft process.

Run Blocking: An area in which he’s limited due to stature but he won’t shy away when asked.

Versatility: Gould offers value not just as a slot receiver but has the ability to play outside and beat defenders down the field while offering an explosive element as a return man.

Notes:

East/West Shrine participant

Averaged 16.5 YPC over final two college seasons

Averaged 16.3 yards per return (2 TD’s) as punt returner

Summary:

His size will hurt him come draft time and the limited catch radius won’t do him any favors, but for a team looking for dynamic punt returner with the ability to become a big play threat as a receiver such as the Jets, Gould is worth considering as a day 3 pick.
