Jets Training Camp Notes from KRL – July 26, 2025

Aaron Glenn

KRL Jets Training camp notes for July 26, 2025.

General Notes

  • The second day of fans was better in terms of attendance and energy.
  • Players were still in jerseys and shorts, and practice ran 2:05.
  • Justin Fields participated in the non-11-on-11 periods (no lines, no risk of getting stepped on).
  • No fights or even shoving matches occurred — a surprisingly clean practice.
  • Aaron Glenn introduced the 2025 version of the “Oklahoma Drill.” Instead of full contact, it involved “thudding.” Top defenders included:
    • Andre Cisco
    • Marcelino McCrary-Ball (LB)
    • Tony Adams
    • Sauce Gardner
  • Tyrod Taylor was QB1, Brady Cook QB2, and Adrian Martinez QB3.
  • Fairly even practice, but considering previous struggles, the offense gets the edge today.

Special Teams Notes

  • The kickers stood out and both impressed:
    • Harrison Mevis (Austin McNamara holding) went 9-for-10.
    • Cade Davis (Kai Kroger holding) also went 9-for-10, showing improved leg strength on 50-yard attempts.

Defense Notes

  • New names flashed, including rookies and UDFAs:
    • Jamien Sherwood had great blitz timing, knocking down a Tyrod Taylor pass and stuffing Breece Hall on a run.
    • Rookie Francisco Mauigoa (LB) showed good range with a sideline “tackle” on Isaiah Davis and added a TFL.
    • Rookie Azareyeh Thomas (CB) made a great INT on a Brady Cook pass, undercutting Allan Lazard’s route.
    • UDFA Payton Page (DT) dominated in the middle, recording three TFLs on various run plays.
  • Isaiah Oliver (DB) forced and recovered a fumble on Breece Hall during a run.

Offense Notes

  • The offense bounced back with better execution and more chunk plays.
  • Josh Reynolds had a standout day competing for the WR2 spot, with two 20+ yard catches from Tyrod Taylor:
    • One against tight coverage from Sauce Gardner and Andre Cisco.
    • Another beating Cisco downfield.
  • UDFA Jamal Pritchett continues to get open and catch everything thrown his way. At 5’8″, his effectiveness over the middle will be tested when pads come on.
  • Rookie TE Mason Taylor showed strong blocking, leading the way on a 15+ yard stretch run for Breece Hall.

Quarterback Notes

  • Justin Fields looked sharp in 7-on-7s:
    • Found chemistry with Garrett Wilson on multiple routes.
    • Split the safeties (Tony Adams and Andre Cisco) for a 40+ yard seam route to Tyler Johnson.
    • Connected on a 20+ yard corner route to Arian Smith before he turned his head.
  • Brady Cook threw a nice 40+ yard TD to Braelon Allen after rolling right when the play broke down.
  • Adrian Martinez showed improved skills but needs mechanical work. He overthrew Jamal Pritchett badly on one rep due to poor fundamentals.

Jets Training Camp Standouts

  • Josh Reynolds
  • Jamal Pritchett
  • Payton Page
  • Francisco Mauigoa
  • Overall offensive execution
