Jets Make Pair of Roster Moves, add Former FSU RB Toafili

After suffering a knee injury in practice yesterday, undrafted free agent lineman Gus Hartwig has been let go by the Jets with kicker Caden Davis being shown the door as well.  Hartwig, a former Purdue product, was hoping to catch on as a depth piece along the interior offensive line.

Davis was competing for the starting place kicker job which looks to belong to Harrison Mevis for the time being.

In addition to that, running back Zach Evans was placed on the reserve/retired list.

The team then added former Florida State running back Lawrance Toafili to replace Evans in the backfield.  Toafili has no real shot to make the team’s 53-man roster, but a practice squad spot is a possibility.

Taking Hartwig’s place on the roster is former New England Patriots and UFL lineman Liam Fornadel.  The Holy Cross product has also spent time with the Winnepeg Blue Bombers of the CFL on two separate occasions.

Toafili was one of the players Gang Green invited to their rookie minicamp following the NFL draft and while he wasn’t signed at the time, clearly did enough to leave an impression.
