Jets Trade for DT Harrison Phillips

Harrison Phillips

The New York Jets have acquired veteran defensive tackle Harrison Phillips from the Minnesota Vikings. According to multiple reports, the deal sends a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 pick swap to Minnesota in exchange for Phillips, with Minnesota also covering part of his 2025 salary. That financial piece makes the move even more attractive for the Jets.

Who is Harrison Phillips?

Phillips, 28, was originally drafted in the third round by the Buffalo Bills in 2018 after a standout career at Stanford. He spent his first few seasons in Buffalo before signing with Minnesota in 2022. In each of his three years with the Vikings he started all 17 games.

Role on the NY Jets Roster

Known for his run defense and ability to occupy blockers, Phillips is expected to step right into a starting role next to Quinnen Williams. His presence should help free up Williams and the Jets edge rushers, while stabilizing the middle of the line on early downs and short-yardage situations.

Why Harrison Phillips Matters

The Jets have made a point of reinforcing their defensive front this offseason, also recently adding Jowon Briggs to the rotation. Phillips brings proven experience and durability to a group that needed another dependable interior presence. With Minnesota covering part of his contract, the financial impact is minimal, giving the Jets a solid value addition for late-round draft compensation.

Looking Ahead

Phillips isn’t a splashy addition, but he fills an immediate need. Lined up alongside Quinnen Williams, it gives the Jets a sturdy interior duo that should keep their defense strong against the run as they get read to start the regular season.
