Ravens 24, New York Jets 23
The New York Jets are halfway through their preseason and are still without a win (0 and 2). They lost on Monday night to the Ravens by a score of 24 to 23. The Jets scored late in the game after Eric Ainge led the team on a touchdown drive. Rex Ryan opted to go for the two point conversion rather than kicking the extra point and sending the game into overtime. The record will be reset once the season opener arrives, so the focus right now is in learning a new defense and finding a quarterback. Rex Ryan knows this and we thank him for avoiding preseason overtime.
Mark Sanchez had a rough night especially early. The Ravens starting defense provides a tough challenge for even a veteran quarterback. The pressure was fierce and he made many mistakes early in the game. An interception by Haloti Ngata was returned for a touchdown. Another sure interception was dropped by Ray Lewis and Sanchez also had a fumble on an attempted handoff. He ended his night late in the 2nd quarter with a touchdown pass to Leon Washintgon.
Kellen Clemens? He also threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Kellen’s numbers were slightly better but he didn’t face all the Ravens starters on defense. Sanchez doesn’t look like he is completely ready but expect him to get the starting nod from week one.
Other positives for the Jets? Leon Washington looks like he will have a bigger role in this offense and he is as elusive as ever. Also, Rex Ryan is bringing that aggressive defense here. They blitz early and they blitz often. Joe Flacco was under a lot of pressure and ended the day 8 of 18 passing. As a team the Ravens averaged 2.9 yards per carry. The defense for the Jets is ahead of the offense right now and they added 4 sacks as well.
And David Clowney continued his preseason tear by catching another touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter from Kellen Clemens.
Next up is the annual Jet \ Giant game on Saturday 8/29 at 8pm.
