The New York Jets have signed CB Devon Torrence and waived FB Fui Vakapuna and S Tracy Wilson. The announcements were made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Torrence (CB/6-0/190/Ohio State/Canton OH) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Vikings (07/27/11) and was waived after training camp (09/03/11). He was signed to the Bengals practice squad (12/19/11) and was later waived (01/02/12). At Ohio State, he was originally a wide receiver before switching to defensive back as a sophomore. In his collegiate career, he started 23 games and recorded 91 tackles and was a member of the 2009 Rose Bowl championship team.
Vakapuna (FB/6-0/257/Brigham Young/Glendale, UT) originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in 2009. He joined the Cardinals after he was waived by Cincinnati at the end of training camp (09/05/09). Vakapuna returned to the Bengals when he was signed off of Arizona’s practice squad (11/04/09), but did not play in any games that season. He spent the 2010 season on Cincinnati’s injured reserve list due to a shoulder injury before spending a portion of 2011 on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad after he was waived by the Bengals (09/03/11). He joined the Jets as a free agent (05/23/12).
Wilson (S/6-2/203/Northern Illinois/Harvey, IL) originally signed with the Jets (08/24/11) as a free agent after he was not selected in the 2011 supplemental draft. He was later signed to the Jets practice squad (10/12/11) before joining the active roster (11/29/11). Last season as a member of the Jets, Wilson appeared in five games and recorded five tackles.
