The New York Jets have announced that QB David Garrard is back with the team. He is currently on the exempt list and the Jets have two weeks before they have to clear up space on the roster for him.

Garrard had been placed on the reserved\retired list in May. He had previously indicated that his knee is what prevented him from being part of the QB competition. With Mark Sanchez now out for the season, the return of Garrard looks like it will mean that the Jets will get rid of Brady Quinn.
Having David Garrard available in emergencies behind Geno Smith gives the Jets a nice veteran presence. Matt Simms is the backup and although he has shown potential, he has no game experience.
“I was able to take the whole summer off and let my body heal. I started training a couple of months ago and my knee feels great,” said Garrard. “I’m sitting at home, watching games thinking, ‘Why am I at home? Why I am doing this to myself? I didn’t want to have any regrets one day.”
“I reached out to Mr. Idzik,” Garrard said referring to a call he placed to Jets GM John Idzik. “He has given me another chance, so it’s truly a blessing.”
