NY Jets GM’s Father Dies, John Idzik Sr. At 85, Former Team’s OC
Former New York Jets offensive coordinator (1977-79) John Idzik Sr., father of Jets current general manager John Idzik Jr., has passed away on Tuesday. He was 85.
When introduced as the new general manager of the Jets early this year John Idzik Jr. spoke of his roots with the organization as he often spent time with his father at the team’s old training facility in Hempstead Long Island.
Idzik Sr. had a long coaching history working for the Baltimore Colts, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles. He was the Jets offensive coordinator from 1977-79.
The following is the funeral arrangements made public from the Jets via Darryl Slater of The Star Ledger:
Arrangements are being made by Chandler Funeral Home of Wilmington, Del., by Director Joseph Yasik. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3003 Silverside Rd. in Wilmington, Del., at noon on Dec. 14, followed by a service. Burial will be immediately afterward at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, 101 Old Kennett Rd. in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Idzik Sr.’s memory to Concordia Lutheran Church.
