Name: Chris Ivory
HT: 6′ WT: 222
College: Tiffin University
Acquired: 2013 trade with New Orleans Saints for 2013 4th round draft pick
Acquired in 2013 from New Orleans where the Saints’ depth at running back prevented Ivory from getting regular touches and made him expendable, the hard-nosed running back has topped 800 yards on the ground in each of his first two seasons with the Jets.
Even while facing multiple 8-man fronts and splitting carries with Bilal Powell (2013) and Chris Johnson (2014), Ivory has been a productive back whose physical running style has drawn comparisons to Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch.
A small school product from Tiffin University, Ivory’s punishing running style makes him a tough runner for opposing defenses to bring down which has resulted in an impressive career average of 4.7 yards per carry.
Hobbled by injuries early in his career, durability hasn’t been an issue with the Jets where he has missed just one game. Ivory figures to be a key piece of the Jets offense moving forward as the addition of running backs Stevan Ridley and Zac Stacy will join Ivory and Powell in what’s sure to be a hard-fought battle for playing time.
