Ryan Fitzpatrick Surgery Update
The New York Jets have confirmed what everyone already knew, Ryan Fitzpatrick has surgery. Since the Jets played last Thursday, Friday was the ideal time to repair the torn ligament in his none throwing hand. That gives him 10 days to rest before the next game. Head coach Todd Bowles said that he expects Ryan Fitzpatrick to be back with the team on Wednesday and he expects him to start on Sunday. Bowles is hopeful that Fitzpatrick can practice on Wednesday and he confirmed that there were no complications with the surgery.
Bowles: Fitzpatrick not at practice today, resting from surgery, which went fine. Expectation is for him to be back on Wednesday.

Here are a few additional questions that were asked of Todd Bowles during the press conference on Monday.
On what type of progression he needs to see from Fitzpatrick…
His pain progression. We’ll see if can take the snaps under center and see how he feels on Wednesday. After the medication wears off and everything, we’ll go from there.
On if he expects Fitzpatrick to be able to practice on Wednesday even if it’s on a limited basis…
We’ll see. I’m hopeful that he will be. He had the day off, he’ll be off tomorrow, so we’ll see on Wednesday how he feels.
On if there will be any contingency plans at quarterback in case Fitzpatrick cannot play…
No, Geno (Smith) is our backup quarterback. He’ll take the reps and Bryce (Petty) will take some reps. So, if he can’t play, the next man will be up.
On how far into the week he would go with Fitzpatrick not practicing before he would choose to start Smith…
Probably after Friday’s practice.
On if Fitzpatrick could play Sunday if he doesn’t practice at all this week…
If he doesn’t practice all week, he’s not playing.
On if he could play Sunday if he only practices Friday…
I’ll see how he looks. That’ll be a decision we have to make after practice.
On how confident he is that Fitzpatrick will play…
I’m not sure. I have to see how he heals and how he takes snaps. It would be unfair for me to say he’s going to be fine. I’m not a doctor.
On if he is still under the impression that Fitzpatrick should be able to play…
That’s what they conveyed to me. We have to see about his pain level. We have to see if there’s any difference in the way he took handoffs last week and the way he’s taking them this week.
