Ryan Fitzpatrick Having Career Year, Earns Praise From Bowles and Others
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the definition of a “journeyman” quarterback in the NFL. Entering his 11th season and now on his sixth team, the seventh rounder out of Harvard appears to be on the verge of finding a home.
“Sometimes, you have to bounce around to find your home” said Coach Todd Bowles. He also added “I’ve seen a lot of guys bounce around on practice squads and different teams before they became stars. It was his time. He’s at the right age, he’s got the right mindset, he’s got the right demeanor. It’s his time.”
Bowles is certainly right, if Ryan Fitzpatrick wants to make a loud statement to the new Jets regime on why he is “the right man for the job” as he would say, a great start would be to have another impressive performance on Sunday against the Giants like he did last week. At 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions along with having the sixth highest QBR in the NFL, Fitzpatrick is having the best season of his career.
Even with the impressive statistics, he is evidently a leader on this Jets team. Offensive Coordinator, Chan Gailey acknowledged how his toughness while fighting through his injury has a trickle-down theory on the rest of the roster. CG says the toughness Fitz has shown fighting through injury has a trickle-down impact on the rest of the roster.

It has been quite some time since a Jets quarterback had complete command of the huddle and an unanimous leader in the locker room like Ryan Fitzpatrick. In other words, don’t expect anonymous quotes from his teammates after the season questioning his leadership because it appears that the veteran has earned the respect of every player on the roster. Even Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin said that Fitzpatrick “is having an outstanding year”.
