Jets @ Dolphins Week 6 Recap: Flacco, Offense Flightless in Miami, Fall 24-0
Game Recap
Midway through October, a winless Jets offense featuring 35-year old Joe Flacco and 37-year old Frank Gore still can’t manage to produce any offense in 2020. To the surprise of nobody. New York opened up the ballgame with 2 runs by Gore, and 4 “chuck and pray” type throws downfield. All those passes fell incomplete. Again, to the surprise of nobody. There were no signs of life on either side of the ball, outside of back-to-back sacks by the defense (Huff/Williams, Basham). The defense got sliced up by Ryan Fitzpatrick, who found 2 wide open TEs to take an easy 21-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Miami rookie running back Myles Gaskin outplayed Jets rookie La’Mical Perine by far, 122- in terms of scrimmage yards, adding insult to injury as it relates to New York’s running back blunders. Adam Gase refused to pull Joe Flacco, despite many stalled drives and sloppy mistakes from the veteran. Instead, he let the washed up quarterback dump it down to Frank Gore to waste away the game clock in the second half. Even Tua Tagovailoa was able to come in for the Dolphins in relief and throw a few completions.
For the second consecutive week, the most interesting thing that happened to the Jets didn’t occur on the field, at least not in Miami. The Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants picked up their first wins of the 2020 season, meaning the Jets are in sole possession of the 1st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Just a few days after saying the play calling was not the issue, Adam Gase, Dowell Loggains and the offense failed to score a single point. Jets lose 24-0 and fall to 0-6 on the season. Their next game is at home against the rival Buffalo Bills.
