The Art of the One-Year Deal

Joe Douglas

GreenBean is on the road again and this week he is in Mrytle Beach, South Carolina. The topic he is discussing this week was inspired by Integrity28 in the JetNation forums. The thread is about, “the art of the one-year deal”. What is it with Joe Douglas and these one-year contracts? No long term deals, no home grown guys extended yet.

The risk of missing on a player with a long term guaranteed contract is well documented, Trumaine Johnson. Use your cap, develop your rookies, but at the end of the year you aren’t locked in to players that aren’t part of the long term solution. This keeps a healthy cap situation year after year.

Watch the video as GreenBeans breaks all this down along with the impact of the stop gap player strategy and how that feeds the compensatory pick program.
