La’el Collins Visits Jets as Gang Green Looks for Tackle Help
In search of help at offensive tackle after losing Alijah Vera-Tucker for the season, the Jets hosted free agent lineman La’el Collins. Formerly a member of the Bengals and Cowboys, Collins is recovering from ACL and MCL tears suffered in week sixteen last season.
Collins has recently been medically cleared after rehabbing his knee and was reportedly set to begin visiting interested clubs. Both the Jets and Giants are on his list with the Jets meeting Collins today and the Giants tomorrow.
A veteran of seven seasons, Collins has started 86 career contests, primarily at right tackle. With Vera-Tucker having previously manned that spot on the Jets line, Collins’ availability could be a boon for Gang Green.
Should the Jets fail to land Collins, they have a few options moving forward. They could move Mekhi Becton back to the right side when Duane Brown returns or elevate Max Mitchell to the starting role. The team could also look to play rookie Carter Warren at some point but given his lack of action in the pre-season, we wouldn’t expect to see that any time soon.
