Looking at the Jets vs Eagles Betting Line
Philadelphia Eagles at New York Jets (+7)
The New York Jets host the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday. The Eagles are the best team the Jets have faced to date. Philadelphia is solid on both sides of the ball, ranking 2nd in overall offense and 10th in defense. This game offers some good values. If you are close enough to attend the game enjoy it. The Jets have apparently earned some respect from the bookmakers. A few weeks ago, this line would have easily been double digits. The Jets played well in defeat against the world champion Chiefs and handled the Denver Broncos on the road last week. Any respect the Jets receive from linemakers or elsewhere is largely due to the defense and the running game. The Jets defense was stout in frustrating Kansas City for much of the game and should provide significant resistance to the league’s second-best offense this week. The real question is whether the Jets can score enough to stay within a touchdown of the NFC champion Eagles.
So, where can the Jets exploit Philadelphia? There aren’t many areas as the Eagles’ record suggests. If the Eagles have an Achilles heel (sorry to mention Achilles Jet fans), it’s their defensive secondary. Although the Eagles are 10th overall in defense, they allow 247 yards per game through the air. Kirk Cousins of the Vikings amassed an impressive 346 yards against Philadelphia. The problem for Minnesota was that they gained next to nothing on the ground. The Vikings ran for just 28 yards in that game. Overall, the Eagles are holding their opponents to just 61.2 yards per game to rank 1st overall against the run. Part of the story behind those stats is that Philadelphia’s opponents typically find themselves behind and needing to throw it to have a chance to win.
The Bottom Line
This line makes sense, making this game one of the tougher calls on the board this Sunday. The problem for the Jets is that they are not built well to take advantage of the one weakness in Philly’s considerable armor. The Jets will not be able pummel Philadelphia on the ground the way they did Denver. They may have some success running the ball, but to win the Jets will need to make plays through the air, and that means relying on Zach Wilson. It’s tough to put your money on Wilson. We were successful last week, but that was mostly about the Jets ground game and the Bronco’s terrible defense.
The Eagle’s game in Los Angeles should also worry Jet fans. Philly shut down the Rams on the road. The Eagles held Los Angeles to just 195 yards passing. The Rams had a healthy Cooper Kupp on the field and Matt Stafford under center. The Eagles may have turned a corner against the pass last week, making them extremely tough to move the ball against given their stoutness against the run. We see the Eagles getting the victory in this one to stay unbeaten. Philadelphia should cover the line as they wear down an overworked Jet defensive unit that is sure to be on the field for most of the afternoon. Jump on this line before it moves over the 7. We also like the Eagles to have some trouble through the air against the solid Jet secondary. Take Jalen Hurts under 245.5 yards passing. We also like D’Andre Swift to roll past 64.5 yards rushing with the Eagles wearing down the Jets in the second half.
