OT Chukwuma Okorafor Joins Jets After Taking Year off in ’24

Offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor took the 2024 season off after being benched for a poor performance with the Patriots in week 1, but now he’s back with the New York Jets.

The former Pittsburgh Steeler joined the Patriots last season but lasted just twelve snaps before calling it a season.  No specifics were given as to whether or not his departure was football related or an off-field issue, but he never returned to New England.

Now looking to get back in the NFL, he lands a 1-year deal with the Jets who are in dire need of a starting right tackle.

Prior to his wasted season in New England, Okaorafor started 55 games at right tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2020-2033.  He allowed just eight sacks in that time.

With only Max Mitchell and Carter Warren having experience at right tackle for Gang Green, adding a player of Okorafor’s stature makes plenty of sense as he could go from being out of the league to an opening day starter.

Best case scenario is the Jets find a rookie in the draft who outplays Okorafor and the veteran becomes a quality backup.
