Jets Release RB Michael Carter
The New York Jets have released running back Michael Carter according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Carter has had a hard time getting regular reps for Gang Green in 2023 and has played poorly in those limited opportunities. Carter has just eight carries this season for 38 yards but has dropped passes on a regular basis coming out of the backfield.
Right now the Jets problems on offense run far deeper than their third string running back, but the team opted to make Carter the first scapegoat for the team’s lackluster performance.
After Sunday night’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, head coach Robert Saleh said there would be no changes at quarterback or offensive coordinator, but that the team would consider other personnel changes.
A fourth-round pick of the 2021 NFL draft, Carter showed promise as a rookie, logging 964 yards from scrimmage (639 rushing, 325 receiving), but struggled with production and injuries last season.
The departure of Carter could mean rookie running back Israel Abanikanda may be active on Sunday and could see some live reps.
