Jets No-Show Against Niners in 32-19 Blowout Loss
There’s no two ways about it; the New York Jets got bullied and beaten in an embarrassing blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Making matters worse, the niners didn’t have superstar running back Christian McCaffrey as a part of their arsenal.
Leaning on little-known Jordan Manson, who ran for 146 yards and a score on 28 carries, the 49ers offense held the ball for a whopping 38:40. The Jets defense was a non-factor all night long. Against the pass there was no rush, and against the run there were only wide open running lanes.
The Jets were out of sorts early on as Allen Lazard had a drop that killed their first drive before Breece Hall lost a fumble on the next one.
Hall would score on a 3-yard TD run later on to put the Jets up 7-3, but that was the last lead the Jets would hold as San Francisco marched up and down the field to score 23 unanswered points to go up 26-7.
There was a glimmer of hope when Aaron Rodgers hit Lazard for a 36-yard TD on a vintage free play after drawing the 49ers defense offsides. But there was never really any hope as that would have required a big stop or turnover from the Jets defense. Neither one was in the cards.
The 49ers would kick a pair of field goals after the Lazard TD which essentially wrapped things up. The Jets would add a window dressing TD in the closing seconds when Rodgers was pulled and Tyrod Taylor found Lazard in with under a minute to go.
So it’s an 0-1 start for a Jets team that will have to do some serious thinking about what do do about the Haason Reddick situation and how they’ll stop the run while defensive tackle Leki Fotu is on the shelf.
